Former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Virat Kohli has struggled for runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Apart from his half-century against Gujarat Titans (GT) and a handy knock of 48 earlier in the tournament versus Mumbai Indians (MI), Kohli has failed to make an impact with the bat.
Kohli’s run-of-the-mill IPL 2022 campaign ended after RCB’s seven-wicket defeat against Rajasthan Royals (RR) Qualifier 2 at Ahmedabad on Friday. The right-handed batter only managed to score 341 runs in 16 matches at a below-par average of 22.73 in the fifteenth season of the cash-rich league.
Quite a few experts have recently come up with their notable suggestions regarding what should Kohli do in order to reclaim his lost form. The latest to join the bandwagon is former Australian fast bowler Brett Lee.
Like others, Lee also advised Kohli to take a break from the game and come back with a fresh mind. He pointed out the importance of Kohli’s contribution with the bat, stating his side does well whenever Kohli is on the song.
“The hardest thing is when Virat Kohli doesn’t score runs, generally, the team doesn’t do well. When we see Kohli had that purple patch, when he got 800-900 runs in that season (IPL 2016), his team (Royal Challengers Bangalore) fared pretty well. We want more from Kohli,” the Aussie was quoted as saying to PTI.
“Maybe (it is) a chance for Kohli to go back and try work on a few things and maybe just have a rest from cricket. Just get away and just freshen up the mind,” he added.
Lee also heaped praises on IPL 2022 sensation Umran Malik, expressing his desire that he wants to see Malik representing India in red-ball cricket. Notably, the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) had a tremendous season with the ball as he finished the campaign with 22 wickets.
“Look, he has been fantastic, what Umran Malik delivers is pure pace. I wish him well, and I am hoping that he gets the opportunity to play the longer format of the game as well,” Lee added further.
