Cricket West Indies (CWI), on Thursday, announced their men’s squad for the upcoming home Test series against Bangladesh, starting June 16.

The hosts will also be without the services of senior all-rounder Jason Holder as he has requested for a break. Holder will miss the tour, including two Tests, three T20Is and as many ODIs.

Moreover, fast bowler Kemar Roach has also not been picked in the squad as he sustained an injury while playing in County Championship in England. Roach will now have to undergo a fitness test to get featured in the red-ball outfit.

“Allrounder Jason Holder is unavailable for selection as CWI has granted his request for a period of rest and recovery. He will therefore miss Bangladesh’s all-format tour of the West Indies. If he (Kemar Roach) is passed fit, he will be included as the 13th player in the Test squad,” an official statement from CWI read.

The 12-member outfit includes three uncapped players in the form of wicketkeeper batter Devon Thomas, left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie and fast bowler Anderson Phillip. Notably, Thomas, Motie, and Phillip have all already debuted for West Indies, but in the white-ball formats.

Tagernarine Chanderpaul – son of legendary Caribbean cricketer Shivnarine Chanderpaul – and fast bowler Shermon Lewis have been picked as reserves. Further, Allrounder Raymon Reifer, who played his solitary Test back in December 2017, has been recalled to the West Indies squad.

“Devon Thomas has been knocking on the door for quite some time. He has done extremely well in our franchise cricket system, and we view this as a good opportunity to give him a go. You would notice that Raymon Reifer is also in the squad. He is another person that has done impressively well in the four-day competition and against England [in a tour game]. So again, we are giving opportunities to guys who are performing. We think Gudakesh Motie is one of those guys who is also bowling well, and we think it will be a good opportunity for him to be involved,” said West Indies’ chief selector Desmond Haynes as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
