England will take on India in the rescheduled fifth Test of the five-match series at Edgbaston in Birmingham from Friday (July 1).
Notably, the first four Tests were played last year, and India are leading the series 2-1 after winning the Lord’s and the Oval Tests. The triumph or draw in this match will help the visitors to win the first red-ball series against the English side in England since 2007.
Ahead of the high-voltage clash, India dealt a blow as they will be without the services of skipper Rohit Sharma after he failed to recover from COVID-19. In his place, pacer Jasprit Bumrah will lead the side. Bumrah will become India’s 36th Test skipper and the first fast-bowler since legendary Kapil Dev to captain India.
England, on the other hand, will be high on confidence after their recent performance against World Champions New Zealand at home. Under the fresh leadership of captain Ben Stokes and head coach Brendon McCullum, the Three Lions whitewashed the Black Caps 3-0.
