West Indies defeated Zimbabwe in a must-win game to stay alive in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 at Bellerive Oval in Hobart on Wednesday.

Defending 153, the bowling duo of Alzarri Joseph and Jason Holder sizzled with their splendid performances, bundling Zimbabwe for 122 to win the contest by 31 runs. The duo didn’t allow Zimbabwean batters to settle as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals.

Joseph picked up four wickets for just 16 runs in his quota of 4 overs, while Holder bagged 3 for 12 in 3.2 overs. Luke Jongwe top-scored for Zimbabwe with 29 off 22 balls, including three fours and a six.

Earlier, Zimbabwean all-rounder, Sikander Raza dismantled the Caribbean’s middle order to restrict the Nicholas Pooran-led side from marching towards the big total.

The Men in Maroon were sailing comfortably at one stage with 77/1 in 9.4 overs before Raza dismissed Even Lewis (15). He then struck twice in the 14th over, removing Shamarh Brooks (0) and Jason Holder (4) to reduce the Windies to 101/6.

After the consistent fall of wickets, Rovman Powell (28 off 21) and Akeal Hussain (23 off 18) anchored the West Indies innings, forming a crucial partnership of 28 runs for the seventh wicket and taking their side to 153/7 in 20 overs.
