When Team India, under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, reached the semi-final of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022, many fans and experts wished to see the Men in Blue qualify for the final to meet their arch-rivals Pakistan. However, this dream of cricket lovers was shattered on Thursday as Jos Buttler and Co. defeated India by 10 wickets at Adelaide Oval.
After India’s embarrassing loss, many experts have laid out their opinions regarding what went wrong for the Indian team. Following the bandwagon, former India cricketer Ajay Jadeja also shared his take on the red-hot topic, primarily criticising captain Rohit Sharma for his absence from several series over the last 12 months.
Notably, the Indian cricket team saw several captains this year as Rohit, India’s full-time skipper, wasn’t part of multiple assignments for various reasons. Taking a dig at Rohit, Jadeja said that a team only needs one ‘buzurg’ (elderly) captain and not seven of them if one want to build a strong team for such a multi-team tournament.
“Main ek baat bolunga jo chubhegi agar Rohit Sharma sunenge, agar team banaani hai kisi captain ko, toh usko saare saal team ke saath rehna padta hai. Poore saal me Rohit Sharma kitne daure pe rahe? Ye hindsight me nahi keh raha, ye main pehle bhi bola hu. Aapne team bani hai, aur aap saath nahi rehte. Coach bhi New Zealand nahi jaa rahe. (I would say one thing which might hurt Rohit Sharma. If you have to make a team as captain, you have to stick with the side for the entire year. How many series did Rohit Sharma play this year? I’m not saying this in hindsight, I’ve been saying this since before. Even in New Zealand, the coach isn’t travelling),” Jadeja said in a chat show on Cricbuzz.
“Ghar ka ek hi buzurg hona chahiye, saat buzurg honge toh bhi dikkat hai. (There should only be one leader in the team. If there are 7, it would be difficult),” Jadeja added.
