England, on Sunday, scripted history as they defeated Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2022 final at Melbourne Cricket Ground to become only the second team after West Indies to win two World T20 trophies.

Ben Stokes, who had conceded four sixes in the last over of the 2016 T20 World Cup final against West Indies, led the batting unit from the front during England’s run chase in the 2022 edition’s summit clash and took his team over the finish line.

Apart from winning the title, England players, especially captain Jos Buttler, also won several fans’ hearts with a gesture towards Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid when the English team gathered for celebrations.

Buttler was handed over the trophy, and champagne bottles were ready to be popped. But, respecting the religious faith of two of his teammates- Moeen and Rashid, the England skipper asked them to step aside before other players could burst into a champagne shower.

After the game, Moeen had expressed his happiness, terming the win as one of the best days of his glorious cricket career. Moeen observed that his team has been playing top-class cricket for the past few years, and they indeed deserved the World T20 title.

“This is one of my best days of my cricketing career. I feel as a team, we deserved it, over a long period of time, we have played some amazing cricket but obviously fell short but the semis and then today to win against a brilliant Pakistan side is an amazing feeling, especially in front of fans and family. It was just about keeping my intent, if I get out, I get out, and being positive, and it was the right balance to Stokesy, he played some great shots and put in a crucial partnership,” said Moeen.
