The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) conducted a review meeting of Team India on Sunday in Mumbai. The board has made a new policy for managing players’ workloads in the lead-up to the 50-over World Cup later this year and the World Test Championship final in June if India qualifiy for it.

In the review meeting, which was attended by BCCI President Roger Binny, secretary Jay Shah, India head coach Rahul Dravid, India skipper Rohit Sharma, National Cricket Academy (NCA) chief VVS Laxman and outgoing selection committee chairman Chetan Sharma, the board has decided that the NCA will work in tandem with IPL franchises to monitor the workloads of key India players, particularly those with a history of injuries.

It was also recommended in the meeting that the emerging players will have to play a domestic season in order to be eligible for selection to the national team. Additionally, the Yo-Yo Test and Dexa will be part of the selection criteria.

“The issues of player availability, workload management and fitness parameters were also discussed at length during the meeting, along with the roadmap to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. The emerging players will have to play a substantial domestic season to be eligible for selection to the national team,” said BCCI in an official statement.

“The Yo-Yo Test and Dexa will now be part of the selection criteria and implemented in the customized roadmaps of the central pool of players. Keeping in mind the Men’s FTP and preparations for ICC CWC 2023, the NCA will work in tandem with the IPL Franchisee to monitor the targeted Indian players participating in the IPL 2023,” BCCI added.

Further, as per a report in Cricbuzz, the apex Indian board has shortlisted 20 players who will be part of the 2023 Men’s World Cup. Over the next seven months, these players will be rotated across formats, and their workload will be monitored as well.
