Nearly two months after calling for applications to form a new senior selection committee, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reappointed former pacer Chetan Sharma as chairman of selectors. He will be joined by four new colleagues, after the BCCI announced a reconstituted selection panel on Saturday evening.

While Chetan (North Zone) is the only survivor from the previously sacked panel, his new colleagues include Shiv Sundar Das (Central Zone), Subroto Banerjee (East Zone), Salil Ankola (West Zone) and S. Sharath (South Zone).

“The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising Ms Sulakshana Naik, Mr Ashok Malhotra, and Mr Jatin Paranjape undertook an extensive process for selecting members of the All-India Senior Selection Committee. The Board received around 600 applications following its advertisement for the five posts issued on its official website on 18th November 2022.

“Upon due deliberation and careful consideration, the CAC shortlisted 11 individuals for personal interviews. Based on the interviews, the Committee has recommended the following candidates for the Senior Men’s National Selection Committee,” read a statement from the board.

Incidentally, after India crashed out of the 2021 T20 World Cupin the UAE during the group stage and subsequently faced a humiliating 10-wicket defeat against England in the 2nd semi-final of the T20 World Cup held in Australia last year, the BCCI had invited fresh applications to form the new selection committee.
