Prithvi Shaw, who slammed a triple hundred in the game against Mumbai versus Assam, had claimed that he was not out, and the way he was batting, he could have easily reached to 400.
On Day 2 of the first innings, Shaw scored the second-highest individual score in the prestigious tournament and surpassed Sanjay Manjrekar‘s 377 runs. The 23-year-old also became the first Indian to score a triple ton in Ranji Trophy, a double hundred in Vijay Hazare Trophy and a hundred in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
Batting on 379, Shaw was dismissed by Riyan Parag of Assam, as the umpire adjudged the Mumbai batter leg-before-wicket (lbw). The match official at first didn’t seem impressed with the bowler’s call, but as Parag appealed louder, the former raised his finger to signal out. Shaw shook his head in disbelief and walked back to the pavilion.
Both Parag and Shaw have played together in the India U-19 team.
After the end of Day 2, Shaw speaking to Sportstar stated that he was unhappy to miss out on a 400 and claimed that he was not out.
“I was very disappointed because you don’t get such opportunities often,” said Shaw.
“I am not saying it was a wrong decision, but when I came back and saw the video, the ball was perhaps missing the stump. I told sir (match referee Arindam Sarkar) also, but I am sure, on the field, the umpires must have thought that it was hitting the stumps,” he added.
“It is hard to understand at times, and such things happen. The umpires are also not at fault because they obviously went by what they saw on the field,” Shaw concluded.
Talking about the match, with the help of Shaw’s 379 and skipper Ajinkya Rahane‘s 191, Mumbai declared their first innings on 697.
