Joburg Super Kings (JSK) locked horns with Durban Super Giants (DSG) in match no. 22 of the ongoing SA20 at The Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on Tuesday (January 24).
Asked to bat first, DSG put up a competitive total of 178/6 in their allotted 20 overs. Heinrich Klaasen and Kyle Mayers contributed 65 and 28 runs to the team score, respectively. Meanwhile, Maheesh Theekshana and Gerald Coetzee picked three wickets each for JSK.
In reply, JSK chased down the set target quite comfortably in 19.1 overs with the help of Faf du Plessis’ ton. In his knock of unbeaten 113 runs, Du Plessis smashed eight sixes and as many fours. The former South Africa captain became the first-ever centurion of the SA20 league and guided his team to a thumping eight-wicket victory.
During his inning, Du Plessis hammered bowlers all over the ground and built a massive 157-run opening partnership with Reeza Hendricks. On that note let’s look at JSK skipper’s storming knock.

Du Plessis was adjudged ‘Player of the Match for his sensational knock. On the other hand, Reece Topley and Wiaan Mulder were the only bowlers for DSG to scalp wickets.
In the post-match presentation, the Pretoria-born spoke about his knock and said: “It is important for me to convert these scores. Good if it comes on like it did today. It was a little bit sticky. Nice win for us. It was tricky. It was sticking. Keshav was getting the ball to stick. We were feeling we were a little behind. Luckily, I was telling him [Reeza] to get me on strike.”
It was a much-needed win for JSK as they did not start well in the tournament and had won only three games of the six matches they had played before. With the win, JSK moved up to the fourth position in the points tally, while DSG slipped to the last spot in the table.
