Resuming their innings on three runs, Australia made a promising start and batted resiliently to toil Indian bowlers on Day 5 of the Ahmedabad Test. Travis Head scored a convincing 90 off 163 deliveries to help the Aussie side surpass the lead set by the hosts. However, he soon fell victim to Axar Patel and missed his well-deserved century.
Marnus Labuschagne also contributed 63 runs to the visiting side’s total and played a significant role in guiding his team to a draw. Labuschagne faced 213 balls and held one end for Australia without making any mistakes. Meanwhile, apart from Axar, Ravichandran Ashwin was the only other Indian bowler to scalp a wicket for his team. During the last day’s play also took place a hilarious incident, where Virat Kohli was heard teasing on-field umpire Nitin Menon.
On the fourth ball of the 35th over, India reviewed for a Leg Before Wicket (LBW) call off Ashwin’s delivery to Head. Although the red leather was clipping the stumps, the batter was declared not out based on the umpire Menon’s original decision. Reacting to it, Kohli said in Hindi, “Agar mai hota to out de deta (If I had been batting, he would’ve given out).” In response, the match official jokingly raised his finger and signalled out with a smile. The video of the same has ever since gone viral on the internet.

Notably, Kohli recently suffered a controversial dismissal in the same series and has a history of getting out in such a manner.
Talking about the match, the final Test between India and Australia ended in a draw. As a result, India won the four-match Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2023 by 2-0. Kohli was declared Player of the Match’ for his exceptional 186 in India’s first innings, while Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja shared the ‘Player of the Series’ award.
