Delhi Capitals (DC) locked horns with UP Warriorz (UPW) in match no. 20 of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday (March 21) and won the contest by five wickets.
Asked to bat first, UPW scored just 138 runs for the loss of six wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Tahila McGarth top-scored for her team with 58 runs off 32 balls. Alyssa Healy also contributed handy 36 runs to the UPW’s total. Meanwhile, Alice Capsey picked three wickets for the Delhi-based team and was well supported by Radha Yadav, who bagged two scalps.
All the three wickets Capsey picked came off stumpings struck by Taniya Bhatia. Among those dismissals, two came in a single over of Capsey courtesy of Taniya’s lightning-fast stumpings that sent UP’s Deepti Sharma and Sophie Ecclestone back to the pavilion.
On the first ball of the 17th over, Deepti tried to slog Capsey over the leg side but failed to read the length and missed the ball completely. Taniya was quick enough to dislodge the bails behind the stumps. The next scalp for the off-spinner came in the form of Sophie, who stepped out of the crease and got tricked by a wide ball. Taniya yet again showcased fast glove work and removed Sophie.
