In the 5/6 Place Play-off of the Fairbreak Global Women’s T20 2023, the Tornadoes defeated South Coast Sapphires at the Kowloon Cricket Club to register their first win in the competition.
Put in to bat, Tornadoes started their innings well and went on to put up a decent score of 115/5 in their allotted 20 overs. Stafanie Taylor was the top scorer for the team with 24 runs off 17 balls, including 4 fours.
Chanida Sutthiruang and Aliya Riaz also made important contributions with the bat, scoring 12 and 19 runs, respectively. Shabnim Ismail was the pick of the bowlers for South Coast Sapphires, taking 2 wickets for just 8 runs in her 4 overs.
In their chase of 116, South Coast Sapphires failed to get going and were bundled out for just 60 runs in 14.2 overs. Chanida Sutthiruang and Sita Rana Magar were the stars with the ball for Tornadoes, taking 3 wickets each and giving away just 22 and 17 runs, respectively.
South Coast Sapphires’ batting lineup failed to fire, with Katie Mack being the top scorer with just 11 runs off 13 balls. Tornadoes won the match comfortably by 55 runs and secured 5th place in the tournament. Chanida was named the Player of the Match for her impressive figures of 3 wickets for 22 runs in 4 overs.
