Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)’s star batter Virat Kohli scored runs at will against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Thursday, May 18. He completely dismantled the SRH bowling attack, which resulted in his sixth IPL century and first since 2019 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
The game was a must-win for RCB, as their main motive was to somehow get ahead in the points-table and strengthen their Net Run Rate (NRR). Given RCB’s previous record against SRH, it was meant to be a thrilling contest.
On the back of Heinrich Klassen’s sensational knock, SRH posted a mammoth total of 186 for the loss of five wickets. The Bangalore team needed to capitalize in the powerplay to stay in the game and the dynamic duo of captain Faf du Plessis and Kohli, exactly delivered in the same manner.
Generally, Faf has the habit of doing the proceedings by attacking the from ball one so that Kohli gets a chance to settle in.
But in this crucial encounter, Virat took charge and sent the first two deliveries of Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, the strongest link of the SRH bowling attack, for boundaries. And after that, it became extremely difficult for the opposition bowlers to halt his innings. Kohli reached the milestone in 62 balls, including 12 fours and six maximums, before getting out on the next ball.
The knock was so good that Kohli’s wife and Bollywood actress, Anushka Sharma, could not stop her from celebrating it on social media with cricketing fans worldwide.
Anushka shared the collage of Kohli’s photographs from his innings and lauded him. “He is dynamite emoji, what an inning! red heart and 100 emoji,” she captioned her post.
