Chennai Super Kings (CSK) equalled Mumbai Indians’ (MI) record feat of five Indian Premier League (IPL) titles by defeating defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) in the summit clash of the IPL 2023 on Monday (May 29). Notably, the victory for CSK came on the reserve day of the event, as the final was postponed due to heavy rain in Ahmedabad. Although rain posed a great challenge on the second day as well, the game saw overall 35 over being bowled, and Chennai eventually clinched the trophy.
Following the conclusion of the final, Dhoni and Co. celebrated the triumph in a grand style as they received a rousing welcome in their hotel. The video of the same was released by the official CSK handle on various social media platforms. While the clip starts with CSK players travelling back to the hotel from the venue and dancing in joy, it ends with Dhoni cutting a special five-tier cake.

Speaking of CSK’s road to the title, the Chennai-based team failed to contain the batters of GT after electing to field first. They leaked too many runs in the middle overs, which resulted in Gujarat posting a huge 214-run total for the loss of four wickets. Sai Sudharshan was the top scorer for his team in the contest. The left-handed batter contributed 96 runs off 47 deliveries to GT’s total.
Despite GT’s daunting total, fans were still hopeful of a great batting performance by CSK batters. However, the rain came in as a spoiler before CSK openers could actually get going, and the play was halted. Later, after immense hard work of the groundstaff, the Super Kings were given a revised 171-run target in 15 overs as per the DLS method.
Chasing 171 for victory, Chennai’s top order kept them alive in the run chase. Meanwhile, the final touch to the match was given by their star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja who hammered a four and a six on the last two balls of the ultimate over when CSK needed ten runs to win.
