Moises Henriques, the Australian all-rounder, has been named the captain of the Washington Freedom for the inaugural edition of the Major League Cricket (MCL).
At 36, Henriques brings a wealth of T20 leadership experience, having secured two titles with Sydney Sixers in the past five seasons. In the star-studded squad, Henriques will be joined by renowned players like Anrich Nortje, Wanindu Hasaranga, Glenn Phillips, Marco Jansen and Adam Milne.
The partnership between High Performance and Washington Freedom has resulted in a synergized leadership approach, as Cricket New South Wales announced the appointment of Greg Shipperd as the head coach.
Shipperd has held the head coach position with Sydney Sixers since the 2015 edition, following a successful four-year stint with the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals).
Furthermore, Washington Freedom has managed to secure the services of Dale Steyn as their bowling coach. After retiring from playing in 2021, Steyn has become highly sought after as a coach and previously worked with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Sunrisers Eastern Cape (SEC).
The inaugural edition of the MLC is set to commence on July 13 at the recently revamped Air Hogs stadium in Dallas. The tournament promises to showcase thrilling cricket and provide an exciting platform for local players and foreign stars.

It is important to build that winning culture around a young franchise right from the offset. Also delighted to have the legend Dale Steyn on board with us. The idea of having such a figure on American shores spending time with some of the youngsters on the squad is truly exciting,” Sanjay Govil, the owner of Washington Freedom, was quoted as saying to Cricbuzz.
