The United States of America (USA)’s wicketkeeper-batter Shayan Jahangir has expressed his desire to compete against India’s modern-day legend Virat Kohli. Jahangir recently showcased his immense talent by scoring a magnificent century in a gripping match against Nepal during the ICC World Cup Qualifiers 2023.
Jahangir, who formerly represented Pakistan at the Under-19 level, hammered 100 runs with the help of ten fours and three sixes in just 79 balls. However, the USA unfortunately fell short against Nepal and lost the match by six wickets.
It is worth mentioning that Jahangir played alongside renowned players like Sami Islam, Imam-Ul-Haq and Hussain Talat during his days with Pakistan’s U-19 team. His prowess with the bat earned him a place in the domestic cricket team Pakistan International Airlines as well. Moreover, he even went on to showcase his skills on the global stage as a member of the Barbados Tridents in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
Jahangir’s century against Nepal was followed by him expressing his desire to play against Kohli. The 28-year-old termed it as his ultimate goal and even reckoned of proving himself in front of one of the finest batters in world cricket.
“To play against Virat Kohli, that’s my ultimate goal. Play against him, and show there’s another batter on the block, waiting for the opportunities in all these big leagues,” said Jahangir while talking to International Cricket Council (ICC).
Speaking of Jahangir’s ODI career, the youngster had amassed 306 runs in ten matches at a decent average of 38.25 in his career so far.
As far as USA’s campaign in the CWC Qualifiers 2023 is concerned, their journey in the tournament is over. They are yet to open their account in the points table, having suffered three straight losses. The United Stated have to play for pride in their last match of the competition against the hosts Zimbabwe.
