Sri Lanka have revealed their squad for the upcoming first Test against Pakistan, set to begin on Sunday, July 16, at Galle. The match will be followed by a second and final Test in Colombo starting on July 24. Sri Lanka’s team selection sees the return of star batter Pathum Nissanka to the red-ball format.

Nissanka, who has played three Tests for the Islanders, makes a comeback to the Test squad after his last appearance in the longest format against Australia at home. The right-handed batter showcased his excellent form during the recently-concluded ODI World Cup Qualifiers, where Sri Lanka emerged victorious.

Joining Nissanka in the 16-member squad is pace bowler Kasun Rajitha. His inclusion adds depth to the bowling attack and provides the hosts with additional options in the opening fixture. The selectors have also made several changes to the outfit, dropping the likes of Lasith Embuldeniya, Asitha Fernando, Dushan Hemantha, and Milan Priyanath Rathnayake.

A notable addition to the side is Dilshan Madushanka, who is widely known as an exciting prospect and stands a chance of making his Test debut during the red-ball battle against Pakistan. Additionally, the likes of Kusal Mendis, Angelo Matthews, Dinesh Chandimal, Dhananjaya de Silva, Prabath Jayasuriya, Praveen Jayawickrama have all retained their spots in the squad.

Dimuth Karunaratne will continue to lead the Sri Lankan side as they aim to deliver a strong performance against Pakistan. Notably, Karunaratne has proven himself as a capable leader, leading the team by example with his consistent batting performances. His experience and calm demeanor will be vital in guiding the team and making crucial decisions on the field.
