Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, have announced the appointment of Justin Langer as their new head coach for the 2024 season. Langer will be replacing Andy Flower, who had served as the head coach of the Super Giants since the team’s inception in 2022. The franchise decided not to renew Flower’s contract after the conclusion of his two-year term.

Under Flower’s guidance, the Super Giants made a commendable start in the IPL, securing a playoff spot in both the 2022 and 2023 seasons. In their debut season, the team finished in third place, while in the recently concluded IPL 2023, they were knocked out in the Eliminator.
Langer brings with him a wealth of coaching experience in T20 cricket, although he has not previously held a coaching role in the IPL. Langer achieved remarkable success as the coach of the Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League (BBL), leading them to three championship titles. Furthermore, he was at the helm when the Australian cricket team secured their first-ever T20 World Cup victory in 2021 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Expressing his enthusiasm for the new role, Langer stated, “Lucknow Super Giants are on the journey of building a great story in the IPL. We all have a role to play in that journey, and I am excited to be a part of the team moving forward.”
His appointment is expected to infuse fresh energy and strategic expertise into the Lucknow-based franchise as they aim to strengthen their performance in the upcoming season. Langer’s coaching philosophy, which emphasizes discipline, hard work, and attention to detail, has proven successful in the past. As the new head coach, he will be responsible for formulating and implementing effective strategies, enhancing player development programs, and fostering a winning culture within the team.
“Dear Andy, Today it’s farewell, but it’ll never be goodbye because you’ll always be one of our own. Thank you for everything!” tweeted LSG.
