Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced the T20I squad for the upcoming series against India, set to commence on August 03 at Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad. The squad features notable comebacks of experienced campaigners and exciting young talents. Both sides are currently battling out in the ODI series, which is levelled at 1-1 with the third and final ODI scheduled to be played today (August 01).
Shai Hope, Shimron Hetmyer return to T20I setup
Shai Hope, the current Windies ODI skipper, has earned a spot in the T20I side, marking his return to the shortest format. The last time he featured in a T20I match was against India last year. Now, Hope has a chance to make an impact once again and solidify his position in the T20 lineup.
Another powerful hitter making his way back to the T20I setup is Shimron Hetmyer. He missed the T20 World Cup in Australia last year, but he has been in top form recently. The left-handed batter played two T20s for the runners-up Seattle Orcas in the inaugural Major League Cricket (MLC) in the USA, showcasing his skills and talent.
Nicholas Pooran adds firepower
Nicholas Pooran, who left a lasting impression with a stunning century in the MLC 2023 Final for MI New York, is also part of the T20I squad. His exceptional batting abilities and aptitude to score big runs make him a valuable asset for the West Indies team.
Further, CWI has also announced that all 15 members of the squad, captained by Rovman Powell, will travel together for all five games in the series. However, for each game, a 13-member squad will be selected, from which the final XI will be chosen.
