Amidst the backing for Tilak from the cricket fraternity, India’s ODI skipper Rohit Sharma has now stepped forward to address the subject. Having closely observed Tilak’s growth and development, Sharma commended the young talent for his exceptional abilities.
Notably, Varma made his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut under Rohit’s captaincy for the Mumbai Indians (MI) and has consistently delivered strong performances for the franchise over the past two years, accumulating over 300 runs in each season.
Tilak’s consistent performances in the IPL earned him not only a secure spot within the MI’s lineup but also a maiden call-up to the national squad for the West Indies tour. He is also part of India’s squad for the forthcoming Asian Games.

Rohit Sharma has his say on Tilak Varma’s possible selection in the World Cup squad
In his recent statement, Rohit openly discussed Tilak’s prospects of featuring in India’s squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup. Although the MI skipper showered huge praise on the young talent, he candidly admitted uncertainty regarding Varma’s final selection for the tournament.
“He looks very promising. I have seen him for two years now, he has got the hunger, and that is the most important thing. In him I can see, for the age that he is of, he is quite matured. He knows his batting so well. When I speak with him I understand that the boy knows his batting – where he has to hit, what he has to do in that period,” said Rohit.
“That is all that I will say about him, I do not know about the World Cup and all, but definitely the guy is talented and he showed it in these few games that he has played for India,” he added.
