The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on Tuesday, announced their squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023, which will begin on October 5 in India. Many big names like Yuzvendra Chahal, Sanju Samson and Shikhar Dhawan cannot find a spot in the squad despite terrific performances in recent years.

Seven players who were part of India’s CWC 2019 squad but will be missing the 2023 ODI World Cup:

1. Mayank Agarwal

Mayank Agarwal was roped in to the side as a potential replacement for all-rounder Vijay Shankar as he sustained a non-displaced fracture of the left big toe. Despite some blistering performances in domestic cricket, the right-handed batter was unable to find a spot for himself in the Indian squad for the CWC 2023.

2. MS Dhoni

When it comes to cricket, MS Dhoni’s name is more than enough to fill his opponent’s mind with fear. The legendary wicket-keeper batter led the Indian side into the World Cup 2019. He scored 273 runs in nine matches, which included two half-centuries. His retirement in 2020 marked the end of an era in international cricket.

3. Dinesh Karthik

Dinesh Karthik was bagged into the WC 2019 squad as a backup wicket-keeper. Though Dinesh had made his significant contribution for the national side many times when needed, he failed to spark a charm in WC 2019.

4. Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant was included in the 2018 WC squad in place of opener Shikhar Dhawan, who withdrew from the tournament due to a fractured thumb. Rishabh is the first-choice wicket-keeper for India now, but a car accident in the last week of December 2022 has put a big pause on his career. He will miss the prestigious multi-nation event as Ishan Kishan has been considered as his potential replacement.

5. Kedar Jadhav

The non-inclusion of Yuzvendra Chahal in the WC squad is a surprise call for many cricket fanatics and experts. He has performed well with the ball recently, but lost his place to inform Kuldeep Yadav. Chahal played eight matches in CWC 2019, claiming 12 wickets.

7. Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been considered one of the best frontline bowlers around the globe in recent times. The 33-year-old right-arm pacer has 141 wickets to his name in 120 ODIs. He registered 10 wickets to his name in six matches at the CWC 2019. But, Bhuvi has been sidelined from the Indian team off-late.
