Pakistan’s legendary pacer Wasim Akram has frequently expressed his admiration for India’s modern-day great, Virat Kohli. Nevertheless, this time, it’s his peculiar explanation of why Kohli appears in his dreams that has left fans amused and laughing.

Rain washed out India-Pakistan clash on Sunday

India took on Pakistan in a Super 4 fixture at the R. Premadasa stadium on Sunday (September 10). The Men in Blue started well in the contest, with Rohit Sharma (56) and Shubman Gill (58) webbing a 121-run opening partnership. However, just when it seemed like India was in great control, rain interrupted the play, and the match was shifted to the reserve day (September 11).

Although rain played spoilsport in the highly-anticipated clash, it also provided an opportunity for some light-hearted moments as Akram shared a unique interaction he had with Kohli before the game.

Wasim Akram’s tongue-in-cheek explanation for why Virat Kohli comes in his dreams

In a candid revelation on Star Sports during the rain break, Akram humorously admitted that he confronted Kohli and told him that he has been haunting his dreams lately. The 57-year-old former fast bowler further elaborated on the reason that he gave the Delhi-born cricketer behind his curious statement, stating he responded by saying that it’s the immense popularity of Kohli which is giving him sleepless nights.

Akram’s tongue-in-cheek explanation drew laughter not only from Kohli but also from the fans.

“Today, (Sunday) I walked past him and told Virat Kohli that you come in my dreams now. He replied saying ‘what do you mean Wasim bhai? I told him because I see so much of you all on the television screen. I just can’t get him out of my mind,” said Akram.

Apart from this, Akram also shared his thoughts on the India-Pakistan rivalry and termed Kohli, Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi as the match-winners from the two sides. He even talked about the opportunity the India-Pakistan clash gives the youngsters to rise.

“Virat, Babar, Shaheen and all these match winners, they play this game for these moments – India vs Pakistan. I mean, for Pakistan everybody wants to perform and vice-versa. This is just made or break. Not for guys like Virat Kohli and Babar Azam but for young guys. These games are fun. Yesterday, the whole Colombo was buzzing,” reflected Akram.
