In a high-octane clash between India and Sri Lanka at the Super 4 stage of Asia Cup 2023, Kuldeep Yadav again showcased his prowess with the ball, spearheading India to a resounding victory.
The Lankan batting lineup found itself utterly helpless against the relentless and formidable Indian bowling attack, struggling to contend with the relentless pressure they exerted throughout the match.
Kuldeep’s dismissal of Matheesha Pathirana marked the final chapter in a memorable triumph for the Indian team, securing a commanding 41-run win. The game-changing moment occurred during the third delivery of the 42nd over, as the left-armer unleashed a perfectly pitched full-length delivery, homing in onto the stumps. Pathirana, attempting a daring sweep shot, found himself deceived by the subtle turn and missed the ball completley. The result was spectacular as the timber behind him was shattered, ending Sri Lanka’s innings at 147.

India Outshines Sri Lanka
Regarding the match, India got off to a strong start, with Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill forging an impressive opening partnership of 80 runs. However, as the spinners took control of the proceedings, India’s batting order dramatically collapsed. Indian skipper contributed significantly with a crucial innings of 56 runs. The rest of the batting lineup failed to make an impact, as the team got all out on 213.
The 20-year-old Dunith Wellalage emerged as the standout performer for the Islanders. The young sensation showcased his talent with the ball, securing his maiden five-wicket haul in ODIs, with figures of 5/40.
Defending the low total, the Indian side made a stunning start with the ball as Jasprit Bumrah (2/30) and Mohammed Siraj (1/17) gave the opponents early hiccups.
However, Dhananjaya de Silva (41), alongside Wellalage (42), tried to put up fight for the Lankans, as they crafted a 63-run partnership for the seventh wicket. But, their efforts went in vain, as their side was ultimately bundled out for 147 runs.
