Cricket enthusiasts are in for a treat as Bangladesh prepare to host New Zealand for an exciting One-Day International (ODI) series, set to commence on September 21 at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.
This series marks the prelude to the much-anticipated World Cup 2023, in which both Bangladesh and New Zealand will participate. Following the ODI series, cricket fans can look forward to a two-match Test series starting on November 28, once the World Cup concludes.
While Bangladesh didn’t enjoy a particularly fruitful campaign in the Asia Cup 2023, their recent victory against India in the group stage has served as a morale booster. Both teams have their sights set on testing their bench strength during this series, as they have opted to rest several key players who are expected to feature prominently in their respective squads for the global tournament scheduled in India, beginning on October 5.
Leadership changes and rest for key players
For the ODI series, Bangladesh will be led by Litton Das, as the talismanic Shakib Al Hasan has been granted a well-deserved break. Similarly, New Zealand has chosen Lockie Ferguson to captain a second-string team. This decision stems from the rest given to many first-choice players following the grueling England tour, aimed at ensuring they remain fresh and at their best for the World Cup in India.
