Ireland announce squad for the series against Scotland

Cricket Ireland (CI) have unveiled their formidable 15-member Women’s squad for the upcoming multi-format series against Scotland. Titled the ‘Women’s ODI & T20I Celtic Challenge’ this series is set to showcase three one-day internationals and two T20 internationals, promising an exciting clash of skills and strategies.

Scotland’s recent success

The announcement comes in the wake of Scotland’s impressive performance in the recent ICC World T20 Europe Qualifier. The Scottish team, demonstrating their prowess on the field, secured five victories out of six matches. Their stellar performance not only propelled them to the top of the table but also earned them a coveted spot at the Global Qualifier scheduled for next year.

A historic multi-format series

This historic multi-format series, comprising five matches in total, will take place at Desert Springs in Spain from October 17 to 24, 2023. The series holds great significance for both teams as they look to fine-tune their skills and build momentum for future challenges.

Ed Joyce, the Head Coach of Ireland Women, expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming series, highlighting its importance in their preparations. He noted that the team had a busy international summer, including two tours and a home series against Australia. However, with a two-month gap since their last international match, the series against Scotland is well-timed as they gear up for a crucial 2024, featuring the T20 World Cup qualification bid.

Joyce emphasized the squad’s balance, comprising a mix of experienced players and emerging talents eager to gain valuable touring experience.

“We had a busy international summer with two tours and a home series against Australia, but by the time we start the Scotland series it will have been two months since our last international match. So, this series is certainly timely as we build towards a big 2024 – a year that features a T20 World Cup that we are obviously seeking to qualify for. A great feature of this squad is that, while young, it still features a significant cohort of experienced players, complemented by some emerging players who are being given the chance build their knowledge and experience of touring life,” said Joyce in an official statement.
