Cricket fans around the world were treated to a spectacle of power-hitting and sheer dominance as India faced off against Australia in the second ODI of their three-match series at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore on a memorable Sunday, September 24.
The Indian batting unit, led by Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, stand-in skipper KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav exhibited a masterclass that left the Aussie bowlers reeling.
Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer’s magical partnership
The day began with India being asked to bat first and facing an early setback, with Ruturaj Gaikwad departing early. However, the wicket of Ruturaj only seemed to ignite the fire within the Indian batting lineup as Gill and Iyer took centre stage and stitched together a remarkable partnership that set the stadium alight. The duo added an impressive 200 runs for the second wicket, showcasing impeccable timing, technique and temperament. Gill played a scintillating knock of 104 off 97 balls, while Iyer matched him shot for shot with his elegant 105 off just 90 deliveries.
KL Rahul’s explosive touch to India innings
Apart from Gill and Iyer’s brilliance, Rahul (52 off 38 balls) also had something special in store for the fans as he wasted no time in taking charge soon after the formidable duo’s departure. Batting with a blistering strike rate of around 165, Rahul displayed impeccable power and added some quick runs for India. However, what truly stood out and stole the show was one extraordinary six from him that went out of the park.
