bangladesh vs new zealand odds predictions 2023 ODI

Persistent rain spoilt things for everyone in the First ODI on Thursday, which was a shame because the game was quite evenly poised when the heavens opened. It also deprived both teams of valuable match time with the World Cup just around the corner.

But they go again on Saturday in the 2nd ODI. There’s a decent chance of some rain and thunderstorms again, but fingers crossed we can have a completed match this time, even if there’s a reduction in overs.

In addition to providing some priceless match practice, both sides will be desperate to win the game, go on to win the series and carry some momentum into the World Cup.

đź“ť Bangladesh vs New Zealand odds

It’s not long until the 2nd ODI gets underway, so a good starting point is to check the latest match-winner odds at the best cricket betting sites. Things are pretty tight between the two in terms of ability and unsurprisingly, it’s just as tight on the betting markets. Here are the latest odds from a selection of top bookmakers.

Bangladesh vs New Zealand predictions

Rain was the winner on Thursday and the forecast suggests it will play a part in this match, too. It may mean we don’t get the full 50 overs-a-side, but these days Umpires do their absolute best to get a final result thanks to Duckworth-Lewis Stern, even if it’s just 25-overs a side, or in some cases, an even shorter match.

The game will be at Dhaka again where we saw that batting conditions were tricky before the rain came. There should be something in the wicket for both the quicks and the seamers and 230-240 batting first could prove to be a competitive score.

đź“‹ Bangladesh vs New Zealand key stats

Here are some good stats relating to past matches between the two sides to ponder:

  • New Zealand are currently 39-10 ahead (with one no-result) when it comes to the overall head-to-head record between these two sides. Thursday’s washout resulted in the first no-result in 50 ODIs between the two sides.
  • Of Bangladesh’s 10 wins against New Zealand, seven of them came in a row: four in 2010 in a 4-0 series win and then another three in 2013 as part of a 3-0 series win.
  • Bangladesh’s top runscorer in ODI matches against New Zealand is Mahmudullah with 676 runs across 26 matches. After being left out of the Asia Cup, he returned to the side for this series.
  • Mahmudullah and Shakib Al-Hasan (each with two) scored four out of the six centuries Bangladesh have struck against New Zealand. Shakib has been rested for this Series and is their fourth-highest scorer against New Zealand.
  • Shakib is also Bangladesh’s highest wicket-taker against the Black Caps with 37 wickets, 12 more than anyone else, proof of how much he will be missed in this Series.
  • Henry Nicholls is the only New Zealand player in action who figures in the Top 45 for most NZ runs against Bangladesh. His 255 runs, including the 44 he scored on Thursday, put him in 9th place.
  • Three New Zealand bowlers have taken five-wicket hauls against Bangladesh: Daniel Vettori, James Neesham and Tim Southee. Of these, only Southee is still playing, though he’s missing this Series through injury.

Bangladesh vs New Zealand betting tips

Now you know who is offering the best odds on the winner market and having been presented with some good stats ahead of the match, it’s time to talk betting tips.

Based on sound reasoning, we’ve picked three good ones on markets involving individual players. And they’re all available at relatively high odds, meaning you’d only need to land one of them to be in profit.

By the way, it’s all eyes on this Bangladesh v New Zealand 2nd ODI for now but let’s not forget the ODI World Cup is just around the corner, starting on October 5 and taking place in India.

Bet on Cricket

Towhid Hridoy to be Bangladesh’s top batsman – 7.2 (Pure Win)

It’s usually the star names battling it out for Bangladesh’s top batsman honours. But this time round the distinction may go to one of their under-the-radar players, instead, who may not have much to beat.

Skipper Shakib Al-Hasan and the highly experienced Mushfiqur Rahim have both been rested for the series so they’re out of the equation. As is the ever-improving Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who hit an excellent century against Afghanistan in the recent Asia Cup and has also been given time off.

The prolific Tami Iqbal is only just returning from injury while the usually reliable Litton Das has been out of form, scoring only 16, 15 and 0 in his three Asia Cup outings.

All of which can open the door to youngster Towhid Hridoy.

We’ll have to wait and see exactly where he bats but it will surely be in the Top 5 so he should have enough time at the crease to make his mark.

After a sluggish start at the Asia Cup, he hit back with fine knocks of 82 and 54 to prove he’s in good touch and with question marks over the others and notable absences, could be the man to beat.

Lockie Ferguson to be New Zealand’s top bowler – 3.85 (Maharaja Fortune)

With the ball for New Zealand, there will be a few dangermen on show.

Trent Boult is a class act who can swing the ball beautifully, while leg spinner Ish Sodhi and spinning all-rounder Rachin Ravindra will surely make the most of any turn in the wicket.

Boult in particular will surely cause problems, but Bangladesh’s batsmen are generally good players of spin so what they really don’t want to face is raw pace.

So, enter Lockie Ferguson.  The man who is captaining New Zealand for the first time is by far the quickest bowler on display and we’ve seen in the IPL over the years how he can take wickets on slower surfaces you wouldn’t think he’d thrive on.

He had an okay rather than spectacular series against England recently but with added responsibility and players not so used to his speed, he may be the bowler to follow.

Rachin Ravindra to be the man of the match – 15.0 (CricBaba)

These two teams are well-matched so it really could go either way, which makes picking a potential man-of-the-match somewhat hard work as he almost always comes from the winning side.

But we just about favour the Black caps and think Rachin Ravindra could be a key player if they do go on to win.

If the wicket is turning, he might well bowl his full quota of 10 overs so could have every chance of taking a couple of wickets, while his batting has improved tremendously since making his international debut. Coming in at 6 or 7 should have a good chance of making his mark in that regard, too.

In his last outing, he made a super 61 against England so comes here in some form with the bat.

Spinning all-rounders have a decent record of getting the MOM award in Bangladesh and he certainly ticks a few boxes in that regard at good odds.
