Besides winning the first IPL tournament in 2008, the Rajasthan Royals (RR) team struggled to gain any momentum. They returned last season after serving two years of suspension along with Chennai Super Kings. With core players like Ajinkya Rahane, Steven Smith, Sanju Samson, Ben Stokes, Jaydev Unadkat and Jofra Archer, the team looks balanced.
The key performers for Royals this season could be Australia’s Ashton Turner, England’s Liam Livingstone and West Indies paceman, Oshane Thomas.
Turner, the 26-year-old right-hand middle-order batsmen, of course, has limited experience in franchise cricket but has made a fine impact while representing the Perth Scorchers in the recent Big Bash League (BBL).
Livingstone, the 25-year-old all-rounder enjoyed a great amount of success for his franchise Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League.
With every franchise looking for bowlers who clock more than 140kph, the promising Thomas could be the ideal selection for the RR in this year’s IPL. The 22-year-old right-arm pacer troubled the Indian batsmen during last year’s ODI series and has captured 28 wickets from 20 T20s at an economy rate of 8.83.
With Varun Aaron, Jofra Archer and Jaydev Unadkat also making the line-up RR can be pleased of having one of the best bowling line-ups in the IPL.
