ICC Test Rankings: Steve Smith jumps to second spot, Virat Kohli still on top

In the latest ICC Test batting rankings, former Australian skipper Steve Smith has jumped to the second spot overtaking Kane Williamson. Smith is now just 9 rating points behind Indian captain Virat Kohli.

The right-handed batsman has been in brilliant form in the Ashes series, scoring a total of 378 runs in his three innings. In the first test, Smith scored twin tons (144 & 142), making a dream comeback in Test cricket after a year-long ban.

It’s something I have never done in any form of cricket. It’s incredibly special and special to put us in the position we are in.“, said Smith in an earlier interview.

New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson slipped to number 3 spot due to some ordinary performance in the test series against Sri Lanka. On the other hand, Sri Lankan captain Dimuth Karunaratne who played a match-winning knock of 122 runs in the first test, broke into the top 10 for the first time.

With 922 rating points, Kohli is still at the top spot in the rankings. Team India is scheduled to start their Test campaign against West Indies on 22nd August 2019.
