India’s young wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has been ruled out of the second ODI against Australia, scheduled to be played in Rajkot on January 17.
Pant didn’t take part in the series opener at the Wankhede Stadium in the second innings after being hit by a Pat Cummins bouncer while batting. Pant had gotten a concussion and remained under the observation of a medical team as per the latest ICC concussion rules.
The Delhi-lad was taken to hospital for overnight monitoring, after which he was declared stable with all scan reports clearing any further complications. Pant has been discharged from the hospital and will now head to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, where he will undergo his rehabilitation protocol. His availability in the final ODI will depend on how well he responds to the rehab.
With no-specialist back-up wicketkeeper in Team India squad, KL Rahul is all set to don the keeping gloves in the Rajkot ODI.
India lost the first ODI in Mumbai by 10 wickets, and now an injury to Pant will be a big blow for them.
