IPL 2020 schedule is out, Mumbai Indians to take on Chennai Super Kings in the tournament opener

UPDATE (6th Sep, 2020): IPL 2020 schedule: Full fixtures, dates, venues and match-timings

The first match of the IPL 2020 will be a repeat of last year’s final with defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) taking on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Wankhede Stadium on March 29.

The tournament will begin only 11 days after India’s home ODI series against South Africa, which ends on March 18 in Kolkata.

The last league game of IPL 2020 is scheduled for May 17, between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and MI in Bengaluru.

To accommodate the extra matches which originally would have been held on Saturdays at 4 pm, the IPL Governing Council has added an extra week to the league phase. Consequently, the league phase this season will stretch to 50 days compared to 44 last year.

At the conclusion of the league phase, the top 4 teams in the points table will advance to the next stage. The ranked 1st and 2nd place side take on each other in the first qualifier while the 3rd and 4th place clash in the eliminator.

The winner of the qualifier will earn their place in the final. While, the winner of the eliminator will then face the loser of the 1st qualifier, the winner of whom will also book a place in the final which is scheduled to take place on May 24 at the Wankhede Stadium.
