Australia’s Test specialist Nathan Lyon pulled off a spectacular catch at mid-wicket to dismiss his former South Australian teammate Callum Ferguson.
Lyon recently featured for the New South Wales against South Australia during the 22nd Sheffield Shield game at Sydney. Placed at mid-wicket, Lyon grabbed the catch, flying across to his left, after Ferguson pulled Trent Copeland’s short-pitched delivery.
The ball was surely going to the mid-wicket boundary looking at the length of the ball, and the power on it from the blade of Ferguson. Even the cameras could not capture the catch, expecting the ball to race towards the boundary. But, the ball went to Lyon, who was completely airborne during his effort to grab the catch.
Only replays could display the brilliance from the 32-year old off-spinner, who is renowned as an athletic fielder even at the international level.

After the end of the day’s play, it was Copeland who was the pick of the bowlers as he picked up three wickets during his miserly spell. He conceded only 38 in his 18 overs, keeping NSW’s noses ahead in the match. South Australia could only manage 135, losing six wickets in the process.
Earlier, skipper of New South Wales, Peter Neville, won the toss and elected to bat first. NSW went on to post 373 before being dismissed. Daniel Hughes top-scored for his state, with an attractive knock of 103, coming off 191 deliveries.
