Much has been speculated regarding MS Dhoni’s selection in the ICC T20 World Cup 2020. The Indian talisman has remained mum on his national ambitions.
MSD has not featured in any competitive games since India’s heartbreaking exit from the 2019 ODI World Cup.
Since then, question marks have been looming on Dhoni’s chances of featuring in what will be the final ICC tournament in his glittering career.
Head coach Ravi Shastri gave a major green signal for the possibility of the Ranchi stalwart participating in the coveted tournament, provided he had a decent 2020 IPL season.
The situation has only turned complicated with the chances of the thirteenth edition of IPL being cancelled. The question now arises, on what basis do the selectors give the nod to the legendary Indian cricketer.
Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings (CSK) teammate, Harbhajan Singh provided his verdict on the much-debated topic in Indian cricket.
According to Bhajji, Dhoni’s credentials are such that his selection will directly be subjected to his availability, i.e., the selectors might have to give him the nod if Dhoni makes himself available for the marquee T20 event.
“How do you judge Dhoni? Do you see his IPL form or give him respect and consider the fact that he is one of India’s greatest players and captains. The guy has done a lot for Indian cricket,” Harbhajan told IANS.
“MS Dhoni is a big big player. He doesn’t need to be told if he is capable or not. So I don’t think you need to ponder too much about it. If you think you need Dhoni, and if he is available, you pick him,” added Bhajji.
Even CSK vice-captain Suresh Raina concurred the statement by claiming that during the training camp, MSD looked the fittest in recent years, hitting sixes at will. Only time will tell what fate lies for the Indian matador.
