‘I made the decisions but someone else took credit’: Ajinkya Rahane on India’s Test series win in Australia

Not so long ago, senior Indian batter Ajinkya Rahane grabbed highlights with his heroic leadership exhibition in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2020-21. In the absence of the then skipper Virat Kohli (who left the tour after the first Test), Rahane led from the front and inspired India to a stunning series win.

However, the middle-order batter has been under the scanner because of his bad patch in recent times. His last hundred came against Australia in Melbourne during that historic tour. He last played in the Test series in South Africa, scoring just 136 runs from three matches.

Notably, Rahane is not known for expressing his opinion on what is written and said about him. But, the former India vice-captain has broken silence regarding the criticism around him, stating that people who love the sport know his contribution to the longest format.

“I just smile when people say my career is finished, people who know the sport don’t talk like that – everyone knows what happened in Australia/even before it, my contribution in the red ball – people who love the sport will talk sensibly,” Rahane told sports journalist Boria Mazumdar on latter’s show ‘Backstage with Boria’.

Further, Rahane, while speaking about the Border-Gavaskar Trophy triumph, made a bold statement where he claimed that someone else took credit for his decisions on the field and the dressing room.

“I know what I’ve done in the Australia series, and that’s not my nature to go out there and take credits. Yes, there were a few decisions that I had taken, but someone else took the credit. Important was for me to win the series,” added Rahane.
