India women captain Mithali Raj is gearing up for her record sixth appearance at an ICC event in the upcoming Women’s World Cup 2022 in New Zealand. Mithali will be leading the Indian troops in the global showpiece event where India’s campaign starts on March 06 against arch-rivals Pakistan.
As Mithali prepares for the multi-team event, she picks four young players who have the potential to shine at the international level. Mithali named batter Richa Ghosh, sensational opener Shafali Verma, and medium-pace duo of Meghna Singh and Pooja Vastrakar as players who have shown top skills and impressed one and all with their consistency.
“The talent that we’ve got in the last year, we’ve tried some young talent in the squad, and most of them have shown that they have the ability to play at this level like Richa Ghosh, Shafali Verma, we have Meghna Singh in the seamers, Pooja Vastrakar. They all have been given good game time, and those series have really helped them and me as a captain to find out where they fit in into the composition of the team,” said Mithali as reported by ICC.
Mithali said she is happy with her personal form with the bat in the lead up to the World Cup before revealing her advice for the young talents. The Jodhpur-lad suggested aspiring cricketers to enjoy the game at the big stage as it would help to ease off the pressure.
“As far as me personally, I am happy with the way that I’ve been scoring runs, and I would love to continue the form into the World Cup. The only advice I would tell the young players is to enjoy the big stage because if you pile up the pressure, you may not be playing the best that the team and you would want to do in the World Cup,” added Mithali.
