Yet another day of the Test match when Team India dominated and completely owned the show. After bundling out Sri Lanka for a mere 109 in their first innings on Day 2 of the ongoing second Test in Bengaluru, the hosts piled up 303/9 before declaring with a lead of 446.

The pair of Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer lit up the M Chinnaswamy Stadium with an explosive batting display on a challenging track. Pant began the proceedings by smashing a 40-year-old record held by legendary Kapil Dev of the fastest fifty by an Indian in Test cricket.

Pant reached the landmark off just 28 deliveries, going past Kapil’s 30-ball half-century that came in 1982 against Pakistan in Karachi. The star wicketkeeper-batter got dismissed right after scoring the half-ton before Iyer took up the responsibility to take the team’s total further.

Iyer continued from where he left and smashed back-to-back fifties. The right-handed batter top-scored with 67 off 87 deliveries with the help of nine boundaries. Iyer had scored a brilliant 91 during India’s first innings on Day 1 of the match.

After setting up the target of 447 runs, India managed to pick one wicket of Sri Lanka in the form of Lahiru Thirimanne, who was deceived with a ripping in-swinger from Jasprit Bumrah in the opening over. The visitors ended the second day on 28/1 in 7 overs with captain Dimuth Karunaratne (10 no) and Kusal Mendis (16 no) at the crease.
