Defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) faced a massive blow after their fast bowler Deepak Chahar was officially ruled out of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 on Friday due to a back injury.
Chahar suffered an injury during his rehab at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, where he was recovering from a quadricep tear sustained during the T20I series between India and West Indies in February earlier this year.
CSK clearly missed the absence of Chahar, as until the official announcement of the right-armer getting ruled out, the four-time champions lost their first four games before bouncing back to win their fifth match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
As Chahar won’t be donning the yellow jersey in the fifteenth IPL season, the 29-year-old penned down an emotional message for his fans on social media, stressing that he really wanted to play but would come back stronger.
“Sorry, guys. Unfortunately, I will be missing out this season of the IPL due to an injury. Really wanted to play but will come back better and stronger like I have always done. Thanks for always supporting me with your love and wishes. Need your blessings,” Chahar wrote on Twitter.

Chahar has been an integral part of the Super Kings setup side since 2018, picking up 58 wickets across the four seasons. In the mega-auction held earlier this year, the Agra-born pacer was once again bought by the Super Kings for a whopping price of INR 14 crore. Now, the franchise will be allowed an injury replacement, a decision on which remains to be made.
