Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain KL Rahul had to suffer a double blow on Tuesday in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. After losing the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 18 runs at DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai, skipper Rahul was fined 20 per cent of his match fee for breaching the IPL’s Code of Conduct.

According to an official statement from IPL, Rahul admitted to the ‘Level 1 offence’ of the IPL Code of Conduct and ‘accepted the sanction’.

“Marcus Stoinis from Lucknow Super Giants has been reprimanded for breaching the TATA Indian Premier League’s (IPL) Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Royal Challengers Bangalore at DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai. Mr Stoinis admitted to the Level 1 offence of the IPL Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction,” the release added.

When it comes to the match, a captain’s knock from Faf du Plessis (96) and a remarkable four-wicket haul from Josh Hazlewood (4/25) inspired the Challengers to defeat Lucknow by 18 runs and register their fifth victory in the tournament.

“We needed someone to stabilise the innings and then get going at the back end. Today, grateful that I could do it. Important that I am able to follow my blueprint of batting. Our bowlers then stuck to the plans, and when you do that on a ground like this, it’s tough for the batters. We need to just working on our strengths, and we actually can get better in a few things,” said Du Plessis after the match.
