In the latest developments, senior Indian pacer Dhawal Kulkarni is all set to join the Mumbai Indians (MI) squad for the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.

Notably, Dhawal, who went unsold in the mega auction held earlier this year, is currently a part of the Star Sports commentary team. But now, he is set to resume his on-field assignments as the five-time champions have acquired his services amid their horrible run in the fifteenth season of the cash-rich league.

The Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai have lost all their six games so far in the tournament and are languishing at the bottom position in the points table. One of the major reasons behind MI’s poor run is their relatively weak bowling attack. While speedster Jasprit Bumrah has been quite exceptional, he hasn’t received enough assistance from other bowlers.

Not to mention, Dhawal has plenty of experience under his belt. The 33-year-old has so far taken 86 wickets in 92 matches at an economy of 8.31 and strike rate of 20.78. The right-armer has represented MI, Rajasthan Royals (RR), and Gujarat Lion (GL) in his IPL career.

“MI skipper Rohit Sharma was keen on adding Kulkarni to strengthen their pace attack. Being from Mumbai, he’s aware of how to bowl in Mumbai and Pune, where IPL-15 is being held,” a source known to the developments said as quoted by the Times of India.
