Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was at his best during India’s first innings of the ongoing fifth Test against England at Edgbaston in Birmingham. The left-handed batter shined with the bat, smashing a tremendous century to help India post 416 on the board. Notably, the visitors were struggling at 98/5 before Jadeja, along with Rishabh Pant (146), took the game away from the English side, adding 222 runs for the sixth wicket.
After stumps on Day 2, Jadeja spoke about his mindset during the innings and also reacted to James Anderson‘s comment where the England speedster had mentioned that Jaddu bats like a proper batter now.
“In the past, he was coming at 8, bat with the tail, so he had to chance his arm a little bit, whereas now at 7, he can bat like a proper batter. He leaves really well and made it difficult for us,” Anderson said, as quoted by Hindustan Times.
When Jadeja was asked to share his thoughts on Anderson’s comment, the Indian all-rounder came up with a savage reply while recalling the infamous 2014 series spat. Notably, during India’s tour of England in 2014, Anderson and Jadeja were seen in a heated exchange of words while the two teams made their way back to the pavilion for lunch in the opening Test. Even the Indian camp had claimed that Anderson had shoved Jadeja without any altercation, and a Level 3 charge was imposed on the English pacer by ICC.
“See, when you score runs, everyone says they think of themselves as a proper batter. But I’ve always tried to give myself time at the crease, to set a partnership with whoever is at the crease, to play with him. It’s nice Anderson has realised that after 2014,” said Jadeja.
