Sri Lanka Cricket (SCL), on Saturday, announced their 20-member squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2022, scheduled to take place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The selection committee has added senior wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Chandimal to the squad. Notably, Chandimal had missed the team’s last T20I assignment – a home series against Australia in June-July. His last T20I outing came in India in February earlier this year.

Further, the apex Lankan board has also picked the impressive Matheesha Pathirana, whose slingy bowling action is likened to the legendary bowler Lasith Malinga. The young fast bowler has played nine T20 matches and grabbed highlights with his immediate impact in the few games he played for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.

Consistent performers such as Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Medis and Charith Asalanka have made it to the Asia Cup setup. Similarly, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, who exhibited his explosive batting at the IPL this year, has also found a spot.

Sri Lanka have also named four spinners in their Asia Cup squad in the form of Wanidu Hasaranga, Mahesh Theekshana, Jeffery Vandersay, and Praveen Jayawickrema. The Islanders will be playing the tournament opener against Afghanistan on August 27 in Dubai.
