Team India head coach Rahul Dravid has tested positive for COVID-19, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed on Tuesday. Ahead of India’s departure to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for the Asia Cup 2022, Dravid was found to be COVID positive in a routine test.

The apex board also informed that Dravid is under the supervision of the BCCI Medical team and has mild symptoms. The former India skipper will join the contingent once he returns with a negative COVID-19 report.

“Team India Head Coach Rahul Dravid has tested positive for COVID-19 in a routine test conducted ahead of the team’s departure to the UAE for Asia Cup 2022. Dravid is under the supervision of the BCCI Medical team and has mild symptoms. He will join the team once he returns with a negative COVID-19 report. The rest of the team will assemble in UAE on August 23, 2022,” BCCI said in an official release.

Notably, the Men in Blue will be playing their opening match of the multi-team tournament against arch-rivals Pakistan on August 28. It is also important to note that Dravid had not travelled with the team to Zimbabwe for the three-match ODI series that finished on Monday.
