The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has named 15-man squad for the upcoming limited-overs fixtures against New Zealand. The Men in Blue and the Black Caps will play 3 ODIs and same number of T20Is in the white ball series, starting next week in Hyderabad.
Vice-captain KL Rahul is all set to miss out the New Zealand ODIs due to his marriage lined up with Bollywood actress Athiya Shetty. Rahul will, however, rejoin the Indian contingent for the four-match Test series against Australia beginning February 9 in Nagpur.
Rahul and Athiya’s wedding has been hugely awaited in both the worlds of Bollywood and Cricket. After Virat Kohli tied the knot with Anushka Sharma, this is the second time that a cricketer will be getting hitched to a Bollywood actress in recent times.
Athiya’s father and veteran actor Suniel Shetty in his interview to an entertainment portal last month said: “She is my daughter, she will get married sometime. I would want my son to also get married, the sooner the better. It’s their choice. As far as KL Rahul is concerned, I love the boy. And it is for them to decide what they want to do because times have changed.”
As per the reports, Rahul and Athiya met each other for the first through a common friend named Akansha Ranjan Kapoor. On the special occasion of Valentine’s Day last year, the celebrity couple made their relationship official via Instagram. Rahul and Athiya took to the photo and video sharing app to upload mushy photos of each other alongwith romantic captions.
Athiya has been travelling with Rahul on the tours abroad since then. The Karnataka stalwart has even endorsed brands like Puma together with the model-tuned actress.
The power couple is likely to exchange wedding vows at the actress’s parents bungalow in Khandala on January 23.
