Right before the start of the One-Day International (ODI) series against Sri Lanka, Team India have suffered a big blow as their star pacer Jasprit Bumrah is set to miss the upcoming matches. According to a report in Cricbuzz, the sources from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have mentioned that a call has been made not to rush Bumrah into action so soon.
Notably, the three-match series opener will take place in Guwahati, and Bumrah is not among the players who have reached there. Earlier this month, the BCCI had updated India’s squad for the ODIs and added Bumrah to the outfit upon the recommendation of the all-India selection committee. Bumrah had also been declared fit by the National Cricket Academy (NCA).
“The All-India Senior Selection Committee has included pacer Jasprit Bumrah in India’s ODI squad for the upcoming Mastercard 3-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. Bumrah was out of cricketing action since September 2022 and was also ruled out of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup due to a back injury. The pacer has undergone rehabilitation and has been declared fit by the National Cricket Academy (NCA). He will be joining the Team India ODI squad soon,” the BCCI had said in a media release on January 03.
For the unversed, Bumrah has been out of action since September 2022. His last appearance for India came against Australia in the T20I series at home before getting sidelined with a back injury. The right-arm pacer then underwent rehabilitation and was also ruled out of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, where the Men in Blue faced a 10-wicket loss in the semi-final against England.
