The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has named the Rest of India (RoI) squad for the Irani Cup fixture set to be played against the 2021-22 Ranji Trophy champion Madhya Pradesh from March 1-5, 2023 at the Captain Roop Singh Stadium in Gwalior.

While right-handed opener Mayank Agarwal will captain the RoI team in the summit clash, middle-order batter Sarfaraz Khan has been ruled out due to finger injury.

Sarfaraz, a prolific run-getter for the last three seasons, has been advised eight to ten days of rest for a broken left-hand finger. He is currently nursing the injury at a fitness camp organised by IPL franchise Delhi Capitals in Kolkata.

Baba Indrajith will replace injured Sarfaraz in 16-member squad.

“Sarfaraz Khan was unavailable for selection owing to a hairline fracture on his left little finger. The All-India Senior Selection Committee named Baba Indrajith as his replacement for the tournament,” the BCCI confirmed in their official statement.

Mayank, Indrajith, Sudip Kumar Gharami, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Yash Dhull will form the fulcrum of ROI’s batting unit, while their fast-bowling department will be led by the Bengal pace duo of Mukesh Kumar and Akash Deep.
