Following a gripping Elite Group C match against Tripura in the ongoing Ranji Trophy, Karnataka skipper Mayank Agarwal found himself at the center of an unexpected health scare. Despite smashing a half-century in the first innings and leading his side to a hard-fought victory over Tripura by 29 runs, Agarwal’s post-match experience took a sudden turn.

Flight to Delhi takes an unexpected turn

Scheduled to fly to Delhi with the Karnataka team, Agarwal’s journey was abruptly interrupted as he fell ill before the flight could take off. Reports suggest that the cricketer consumed something onboard the flight which led to a sudden onset of uneasiness, a burning sensation in his throat, and vomiting. He was promptly de-boarded and rushed to a local hospital for medical attention.

Allegations of foul play

It has been revealed that Agarwal drank liquid from a pouch, mistaking it for water, which was placed on his seat during the flight by IndiGo airlines. Subsequently, the cricketer lodged an official police complaint, alleging foul play in the incident.

“Mayank Agarwal, an international cricketer, while sitting on a flight saw a pouch in front of him and thinking of it as water, drank it. He had swelling and ulcers in his mouth. His condition is normal, and his vitals are stable. His manager has made a complaint. We are registering the complaint and will investigate the matter,” said SP West Tripura Kiran Kumar K in a video posted by PTI.

Current status and future plans

With Karnataka’s next Ranji Trophy match against Railways looming on February 2, Agarwal has been ruled out of the game due to his present condition. Instead, he will be flown to Bengaluru for further medical treatment.

Assuring the public about Agarwal’s well-being, a Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) official mentioned, “He (Agarwal) is not in any kind of danger. He is currently under observation in a hospital at Agartala, and we will fly him back to Bengaluru once we get an update from the doctors, which we are expecting tonight.”
