Mumbai Indians (MI) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) faced each other in the Sunday afternoon clash of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, where Mumbai managed to defeat Kolkata by five wickets.

Put to bat first, the Knight Riders got off to a shaky start as they lost two early wickets without scoring any runs. However, Venkatesh Iyer played a scintillating knock and smashed his maiden century to bail KKR out of trouble. He scored 104 off just 51 balls, which included 6 fours and 9 sixes, to help his team post a challenging total of 185/6 in 20 overs. Hrithik Shokeen was the pick of the bowlers for Mumbai Indians as he picked up 2 wickets for 34 runs in his 4 overs.

Chasing a target of 186 runs, Mumbai got off to a decent start with Rohit Sharma scoring 20 runs off 13 balls. However, it was Ishan Kishan who turned the match in Mumbai Indians’ favour with a brilliant innings of 58 off just 25 balls, which included 5 fours and 5 sixes.

Stand-in skipper Suryakumar Yadav and batter Tilak Varma also contributed with scores of 43 and 30, respectively, while Tim David played a quickfire knock of 24 runs off 13 balls. Mumbai Indians chased down the target with 2.2 overs to spare and 5 wickets in hand.

For KKR, Suyash Sharma was the most successful bowler, bagging two wickets for 27 runs in his quota of 4 overs. However, it wasn’t enough to prevent Mumbai Indians from winning the match.
