Former South African spinner Imran Tahir has picked the better finisher in the Indian Premier League (IPL) between two global icons MS Dhoni and AB de Villiers. Both Dhoni and De Villiers are widely considered as two of the best finishers and have a proven track record of finishing games for their respective teams. Their batting skills, impressive temperament, and ability to turn the game on its head make them two of the best game-changers in the tournament’s history.
Dhoni, who is currently leading Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2023, is known for his calm and composed approach in pressure situations and has a remarkable ability to assess the situation in order to play accordingly. Dhoni’s ability to hit big shots towards the end of the innings has helped CSK win several close matches and as many as four IPL titles.
Similarly, De Villiers has a wide range of shots and is particularly good at taking the bowlers to the cleaners in the slog overs. He has played several match-winning innings for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), which has earned him a huge fan following.
But who between the two legends is the better finisher? Well, the tough question was asked to Tahir while he was doing commentary for Star Sports. Tahir termed the question as quite difficult but eventually went with his former teammate De Villiers. The spin maestro reckoned he hasn’t seen a better player than De Villiers.
“Mujhe muskil me daal diya hai lekin dekhein mai samjhata hu ki modern cricket ka jo maine sabse best player dekha hai wo maine ye kaha bhi hai to mai usi pe atal rahunga and that’s ABD. (You have put me under the pump, but as far as I think, I have not seen anyone better than ABD [AB de Villiers]. So, I would stick to him.),” said Tahir.
“Maine use bada player nahi dekha. Wo finishing ke role mein kare ya upar se inning ko build karne ke role me rahe, Mai samajhata hu, jitni cricket main khela hu, maine ABD jaisa player nahi dekha. (I have not seen any bigger player than him, whether it’s finishing or building an innings at the top order. I have not seen any other player as special as him during my career.),” he added.
