Sunrisers beat Southern Vipers in RHF Trophy 2023

In the first match of the exciting opening day of Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy 2023, the Sunrisers exhibited a dominant performance, handing Southern Vipers a massive 126-run defeat at Southampton.

Batting first, the Kelly Castle-led side posted 288/7 in their allotted 50 overs, courtesy of Mady Villiers and Jodie Grewcock’s sensational batting. While Villiers top-scored with a 53-ball 70, Grewocok smashed 69 from 110 deliveries.

Opener Grace Scrivens also sizzled with the bat, scoring 67 off 80, including 10 fours. For the Vipers, Linsey Smith was the pick of the bowler, taking three wickets for 50 runs in her quota of 10 overs.

In response, the Georgia Adams-led Vipers got bundled out for just 162, losing the contest by 126 runs. Abtaha Maqsood wreaked havoc with her splendid bowling performance. The leg-spinner went on to take five wickets while conceding only 30 runs in 9.2 overs. Maia Bouchier was the highest scorer for the Vipers, with 57 from 48 balls.

Brief Scores: Sunrisers 288/7 (Villiers 70, Grewcock 69, Scrivens 67) beat Southern Vipers 162 (Bouchier 57, Maqsood 5/30) by 126 runs.
